Red sandstone rocks in Wadi Rum

Overview

Wadi Rum, the Valley of the Moon, is a protected desert of red sand and sandstone mountains in the south of Jordan, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You explore it in a 4x4 driven by a Bedouin driver from the local community, with stops at rock bridges, dunes and a tea fire.

Then the road goes on to Aqaba, Jordan's only coastal city, on the Red Sea. It is about four hours from Amman, so most guests prefer to sleep in Aqaba or in the desert and return the next day; a single long day is also possible.
