Overview
Amman is a modern capital built around the remains of Philadelphia, the Roman city, and of much older settlements on the hill we now call the Citadel. This half day shows you both layers.
You start at the Citadel, with the columns of the Temple of Hercules and the Umayyad Palace, and look out over the city. Then you go down to the Roman Theatre, which seats about 6,000 people, and the small Odeon beside it, and finish in the old downtown, where the shops and cafes are best at the end of the afternoon.
